E-RYT 200 and tai chi
Michael has been practicing yoga and various forms of martial arts since the early 1980’s. He is an advocate of wilderness and wilderness travel and has been a professional guide and mental health worker all his life. He found his way to Sitka by way of Juneau and New Zealand and has spent 3 summers here immersed in paddling.
His commitment to yoga as “The science of longevity” (BKS Iyengar) led him to earn his teachers certificate in 2006. He opened the first studio in his town in New Zealand in 2007. Initially trained in Sivananda tradition he has since participated in multiple 10-day teacher-immersions in a variety of styles including tai chi and qi gong which he is also pleased to present.
Michael’s commitment to yoga began when he realized the mental advantages it provided to him in high-risk adventure sports. It deepened after he healed himself from injuries he was told he would never recover from without surgery. Michael presents a variety of styles with a relaxed and deliberate style that provides clear guidance and a touch of poetry and humour.
As the new owner of an expedition kayak outfitting company he looks forward to creating some weekend combinations of tai chi, paddling and Yoga. He is the administrator of the FB group Sitka Kayakers.
